What do you think about the expression "He's ALL boy!"?
I have a daughter who is almost 4, and I roll my eyes every time I hear a mother say that about her son. It seems like such a sexist thing to say. I don't consider myself a raging feminist, however this is 2009. Expressions like that are offensive to me. My daughter comes home with dirt in her ears and nose from playing so hard outside. She has cuts, scrapes, and dirt in her hair. She brings home frogs and worms, and has a fascination with slugs. If she were a boy, they would say, "He's all boy!". Since she's a girl, I've decided to adopt the expression, "She's ALL girl!"
Next time I go pick her up from her school and she is red-faced, sweaty, and dirty from playing, I'm going to laugh and shake my head at the other mothers and say, "Oh well, she's ALL girl!!" If they look confused and wonder what i'm talking about....that's their problem.
For anyone who watched Friends as religiously as I did, its like changing the meaning of "Pulling a Monica".
Here in the UK they say "Oh he's SUCH a boy!" when their son smacks the cat or hits another kid! Not ALL mothers of boys of course but I know thetype you are speaking about! I LOVE your idea of saying that about your daughter! I may have to do the same with mine! I also hate it when people say "Oh boys are harder to potty train or Oh boys learn slower" it holds boys back and allows them to act dumb about certain things!
