How would you explain the expression "in place"?
I've recently come across the expression "in place" in the following extract: "The solution: what we have in place may not be enough. While most organizations have systems in place for storing and managing digital objects, these systems were not designed with preservation in mind." Is it the special term or they wanted to stress that they have own systems?
Thanks in advance!
In this context it means 'set up', 'organised', 'operating'. It''s a commonly used expression.
