How to tailor a men's extra large shirt to make it a large?
Okay so I bought a shirt for a friend of mine on Ebay and I ordered a large but was sent an extra large, what can I do? Is it possible to take it in and it still look good? What should I do.
This work has to be done by a professional tailor.
Usually shirts are graded up by one inch each size.
The neck is 1 inch larger and will have to remain as such, because it is almost impossible to change the neckline in an alteration.
The length is 1 inch (to 1 1/2 inch) longer in an XL over L so that can be trimmed easily, if desired.
The sleeve is one inch longer and so is the shoulder. A tailor will be able to resize this by opening the seams at the shoulder and re-cut and re-sew it.
And finally the side seams - these can be easily reduced by 1 inch each side by re-cutting and re-seaming/stitching.
It's a complex alteration job if you want the shirt to fit right - otherwise return it and get the right size.
