etching letters into glass?
i need to etc letters into plexiglass and cutting out the design would take waaaaay to long (it's long). is there a type of glass etching cream or liquid i can use with a paintbrush to just freehand all the writing? i've read that regular glass etching creams would etch plexiglass too.
i could buy actual glass to so it there one that would work well with freehanding words onto actual glass?
Plexiglass normally will not respond to the acids used in etching glass. The result may cloud the area but will not give you a uniform "etched" appearance. Another way to achieve a similar look, is to mask the plexiglass panel, mark your lettering, peal back the covering, and then "sandblast" the area with very fine blasting sand. All you need, is a compresser, and a small hand held canister sandblaster, Sears has one with a 1 quart canister for under $50.00. You will probably have to purchase abrasive sand from a paint supply company, a 50lb bag is about $15.00 in my area. An easier way to achieve the same effect, is to have vinyl lettering cut at a sign shop. They have adhesive backed vinyl that will give you the effect of etched glass. You can even have computer generated designs worked into your "etched" project.
