What will Roy Jones Jr's place be in history?
In his prime he was one of the most exciting and talented boxers the sport has ever seen. Yet so many critics say he didn't fight anyone. He has clear and easy victories over greats Toney and Hopkins, and defeated HW John Ruiz. He dominated the LHW division contenders of the time including Virgil Hill, Griffin, Woods, Julio Cesar Gonzalez. Before Jones-Tarver 1 Jones had NEVER won by anything other than an unanimous decision or KO! That was 50 pro fights! I venture to say that no one other than Rocky Marciano has ruled their division for as long and has effectively as Roy Jones Jr did. Obviously Jones losses and his uninspired attempt to beat Tarver in their 3rd fight makes Jones look more human and hurt his legacy. But was Roy Jones Jr in his prime not one of the best boxers in history? Also, please take into consideration the Jones has no control over how weak his division was. History's divisions can't all be as stacked as the Frazier/Ali HW division was.
He's a top 25 P4P boxer of all time in my opinion. In his prime he was probably the most talented boxer ever. He is ranked lower than the other greats because his opposition wasn't as good. As far as talent and skill goes however, I have never seen better.
