sewage smell comes out of washing machine when toilet is flushed?

We have had a lot of rain and it takes a while for it to drain. The washing machine starts to smell like sewage when we flush either of our 2 toilets. We think that the gas from our septic tank is venting through the washing machine pipe thing. Any ideas on whats going on or how to fix it?

You may want to check the drain trap for the washer you may not have any water in the trap for some reason such as if you have not used the washer recently, which would allow the odor from the drain line to vent thru the washer, an easy fix is to simply run a load of wash or just pour a large glass of water down the washer drain and see if it helps this would be my initial attempt to try on the problem its easy and free.
