Charlotte---Both are absolutely lovely and two of my favourite names for a female. If my partner and I are ever blessed with a daughter, her name will be Charlotte. So I guess I'm going to have to choose that one. I adore both of these, though.

Felicity---Felicity doesn't seem like a name that I would like, because it isn't my kind of name, but I quite like it. Its meaning is lovely, and it is as accessible as Hope and Faith, but more feminine, and less overused. I'm not a fan of Felicia.

Melinda---I don't care strongly for either name, but they are both quite nice and nothing absolutely ridiculous. I chose Melinda because it's less popular Melinda, though I can see the appeal of both.

Laurel---I quite like the name Laurel. It's a lovely and interesting alternative to Lauren, which seems boring and bland to me. Even though I'm into the old-fashioned, vintage, traditional type names, Carol just seems too old to me.

Lydia---Lydia won, hands down and no questions asked. Lydia is just such a gorgeous name. An ancient place-name, also seen in the New Testament and in Jane Austen, the neglected name Lydia is slowly beginning to be appreciated for its history and haunting quality. I adore the name. Naomi is perfectly fine as well, and I'm a huge fan of its biblical aspect, but it compared to Lydia---no competition.

Eleanor---Eleanor is my partner's grandmother's name. I love the sound of it. It's traditional, classic, lovely, and I believe you can't go wrong with it. It has been n and out of fashion since Queen Eleanor of Aquitaine brought it from France to England in the twelfth century, this stately name is hot again. Big plus: it's a serious name, with a nickname---Ellie---that's seriously endearing. Eloise is beautiful, as well.

Rose---I like this name a lot. I favour it as a first name compared to it being in the middle name slot, where it is painfully overused. I've grown very tired of it as a middle name, but I find it to be extremely refreshing and lovely as a first. Joy seems tacky to me.

Cora---Cora is one of my newest favourites. A lovely, old-fashioned name---she was a daughter of Zeus and the heroine of The Last of the Mohicans---recently rejuvenated and strengthened by its contemporary-feeling simplicity. Nora is absolutely gorgeous as well, so this was a very tough choice.

Bernadette---I dislike both of these names, but chose Bernadette because I'm a bit biased when it comes to the name. I have an aunt Bernadette, and she is a wonderful woman that I am very close to. Antoinette doesn't appeal to me at all.

Iris---A faded flower name beginning to regain its appeal via celebrity power: Jude Law and Sadie Frost chose it for their daughter. Iris is also the Greek goddess of the rainbow. It has a magical and feminine sense to it that I'm fond of. Irene is nice, just not as nice as Iris in my honest opinion.

Odelia---This is such a pretty and unique (almost completely unheard of) Hebrew name that would create a strong but feminine impression. I love its meaning, "praise the Lord". Opal just sounds very strange to me, like it shouldn't be a name.

Francine---I can't say I care for either of these names. I chose Francine because I honestly cannot stand Frances on a girl. It just sounds so extremely masculine to me! At least Francine has a little bit of femininity to it. But it is dated and declasse.

Freya---I quite like Freya. The name of the Norse goddess of love and fertility is very popular in the UK but hardly known here in Canada. A possible namesake for an ancestral Frieda. Michaela isn't pretty to me, but I do love Michael.

Susannah---Susannah is a refreshing and underused biblical name. By far the most stylish form of the classic name now that Susan has retired. Susannah has New Testament and musical pedigrees, is impervious to trends, and has an irresistible, flowing rhythm. It can be spelled with or without that final "h", but I prefer it with. I dislike Jocelyn. A lot.

Juliet---Juliet is just gorgeous! Simply gorgeous. You can't go wrong with that name. One of the most romantic names, the lovely and stylish Juliet seems finally to have shaken off her limiting link to Romeo. I strongly adore this name. Violet is beautiful as well, but I prefer Juliet a tad more.

Clara---Clara is a favourite of mine, and it's on my name list at the very top. I think it's a gorgeous name with class. It's a European-sounding Claire variation that was hugely popular a century ago, and is just starting to revive today. I also think it ages perfectly. I dislike Isabella because of its popularity.

Paige---Though I can't tell you that either of these names are favourites of mine, I definitely favour the name Paige over Paula. I'd only use Paige as a middle name, because of how blunt it is. Paula doesn't sound feminine or pretty at all.

Evangeline---Evangeline is actually one of my newest favourites. I've recently heard it a couple weeks ago, after my sister introduced it to me. I like it a lot. It's an old name on the brink of a major comeback, via religious overtones and popularity of the similar name Eva. Penelope doesn't appeal to me.

Christine---I dislike both of these names, because I have known at least five Christines, and at least ten Jennifers. It was so popular when I was in high school. Every other girl you met was a Jennifer. Christine won this round because I actually think it's pretty. It has a feminine tone to it.

Abigail---Abigail is one of my all time favourite girl names. Though some would classify it as bland, I think it's lovely. The nickname Abby has the potential to sound adorable on a little girl. It's an Old Testament name---Abigail was the wife of David, renowned for her beauty, wisdom, and prophetic powers---that became a term for a maid in the early nineteenth century and subsequently fell from favor. Now, it's back in a big way, liked for its slightly proper vintage charm. It's been the name of two of our First Ladies---three, if you count the character on West Wing. Cecelia seems so overdone to me. I much prefer the name Celia.
