Could someone help explain this?

My Dad and I were talking about memories this morning and we were mentioning how our family had a cottage in the middle of the country in Scotland, but later we had to sell it. We got on to talking about our neighbours there, and he mentioned one guy who moved in and my Dad described him as a waste of space. When asking why, he said he was really devious and used to marry Indian ladies and then divorce them (I do vaguely remember the ladies, they were nice, but couldnt speak much English), and also never bothered to work and sponged all his life. Why marry these girls and then divorce them?
No DC61- I was only a little girl at the time! I just thought it was strange this guy used to keep bringing back different ladies!

He was / is a control freak and power-monger. If the primary language is English, and these women could not speak English, they were dependent on him to some extent. He probably wooed them in courtship, married them, enjoyed the novelty for a while and then wanted something else. Yes, I agree with your Dad - "waste of space." I could probably say a few less nice things, but I will refrain from doing so.....
