My sister is having a baby and we were trying to think of cool traditions or memories we could start?
For example, we had a lady tell us that she got a locket with each of her childrens first initial and then put a lock of hair from their 1st hair cut in there. Anything you can think of that might be fun or a great memory for her once she gets older. Thanks!
you could do something similar to the locket only with Christmas tree ornaments.
get the clear ornaments that you can open, and put a picture and a lock of hair in the ornament.
And in our family we each got a crocheted blanket from my grandmother.. and I'm going to make my niece a quilt, basically an item that can go with her for her entire life.. and that was made with love.
If you want to do something a little different, you could purchase a star and name it the babies name.. then the child has their own star growing up. (you'll get a certificate with the exact location, and most observatories or local astronomy clubs will be glad to find it and point it out.)
you could also make a "time capsule" for the baby for when he or she gets older. There are some places that will store it for a small fee (some banks will do it too, you could check there as well). Find some things that won't decay, but that really show what things are like "today" and then make sure to get a newspaper on the day the baby is born that can be added to the box. When she's older (I'm saying she because I have a new baby niece), she can look and see what things were like when she was born.
