What does it take for someone to win the Scripps National Spelling Bee?

I mean, how do you enter, how do you prepare, how do you gain confidence, how do you find out about all these different origins and strange words, how do you win? My plan is to read/listen the entire Webster's Third (or Fourth, if it comes out by then) New International Dictionary, Unabridged at five times a page and five times a word. Training through weekends (if nothing's happening), breaks, summer, whatever it takes to to know the words. I also want to find out about all these etymologies and how the are words spelled (You know greek with AEs in them and Italian with SCs in them). So how do I do it?

I expect you have to have an extremely good memory as these kids have to KNOW all these words - they can't just figure out most of them - they are too obscure.

Here is the website for the Scripps National Spelling Bee with rules, study suggestions, etc. It may help you.
