Can I get away with putting a tiny non-DMV sticker on a plate in CA?

This is a terribly dorky odd question, but I thought I'd ask for opinions. I've been thinking about getting a personalized license plate, but here's the thing: there are no special characters allowed on California plates. What I want really needs a period/dot to "work". Do you think I could get away with just putting a little dot sticker on my license plate? It wouldn't touch or cover any number/letter. I certainly don't want to be pulled over because I've "defaced my plate" or some such crap, though I couldn't find anything about it online, other than that the plate needs to be mounted properly and fully visible, which it would be. Is that asking for trouble and taking a chance, or do the cops have better things to do than worry about a dot on a license plate? :^)

I don't think that would be to big of a problem. The worst they could do is give you a fix it ticket (Doesn't go on your driving record). I'm not sure what some of the other people are saying about not allowing clear plate covers, that is complete BS. Plus cops usually won't give women tickets for little things like that. Go for it!
