I'm bipolar and disabled. I'm very bored and need advice on something to occupy my time.?
I am a married 36 F with a 16 yr old son. I have 4 dogs and we live in our own home in suburban Houston. I would like to find a hobby to occupy my time, but find that I'm very tired (due to meds) to really get heavily involved. I'd love to volunteer with animals but there is nothing close enough. I need to stay close to home because of my sudden onset of sleepiness. I really don't know what I like other than cooking and animals. I'm not crafty at all (no talent or patience and I tend to be too hard on things, meaning like when I color, I press down too hard and things like break my glasses when cleaning because I rub too hard). I can't spend time outside b/c of my allergies, although I'd love to grow a small garden. I've tried scrapbooking and stamping but it's very overwhelming. I need something calming that is not too intense. Thanks for any advice.

Just a few other things:
You said that you'd "love to volunteer with animals but there is nothing close enough," but there are various kinds of "rescue" groups that would love to have you care for an animal at home for a specified time.
The animals could be sick or abandoned birds/kittens/whatever, or just those waiting for a permanent home, etc. Check with the Human Society, or look up "rescue" groups for wildlife, certain types of animals, or breeds of dogs, etc, for more info and opportunities.
I guess you could grow a number of small vegetables in your house (under grow-lights), or just grow herbs --which would also fit into your cooking interests.
And there are loads of ways to be involved with cooking --from researching and trying new recipes, to creating your own "cookbooks" either as real items (perhaps spiral bound at Kinko's, etc.) or online in a "blog" etc.--there are already lots of cooking blogs (or blogs that include cooking as well as other interests) so you could check them out for ideas. Most blogs are free nowadays and you can also post as many pics as you like, but Google's Blogger is probably the biggest (or WordPress). You could also post pictures and/or text re what you already know about cooking and recipes... many people would benefit from that.

... and there's even a cooking section here at Yahoogroups that you might want to read and possibly respond to.
(Computer and online stuff is good too because you can do only as much as you want, whenever you want... or not.)
There are also groups online for practically any interest you can think of so you can talk about your interests, and have a sense of community, even if you can't actually *do* those things.
As for your allergies, there are some good meds for those these days (not just the old antihistamines that make one sleepy, and allergy shots) as well as *preventive* sprays like Flonase (or there's one that's similar but an OTC, which I can't remember the name of), etc.
Or or you could just be outside only during the *least allergenic* times of day (see below), or you could wear a dust or other mask over your nose, etc.
Here are some tips I've gathered re being able to be outside when allergic:

Pick the right time and weather for yard work:
...Pollen counts vary by time of day and by weather condition…check the pollen index for your area; best times tend to be:
…be outside later in the day (but not too late, as counts climb again in the evening ...pollen counts are highest before 10 a.m)
…cool, cloudy, or misty days, and still days are good… but do not work on hot and dry or windy days (pollen levels are high and can be blown a long way)
…during and right after rainfalls is also a good time (but wait an hour or so after a dramatic storm because hard rain fractures pollen grains, exposing more of the proteins that prompt allergic reactions)
Clean yourself up (and your clothing)
After finishing outdoors, pollen can be carried into the house or car on your hair, skin and clothing (then rubbed onto furniture, bedding, etc.)
…so immediately remove clothing (at the door) and shower, making sure to wash hair or at least rinse it well, and put clothing in washer (or in a bag, then in the washer)
...for hair, at least wipe down hair with a damp cloth to remove pollen ...eyebrows too
Protect your skin
When possible, wear a long-sleeve shirt and gloves, and perhaps a dust mask, to reduce contact with pollen while you're gardening
Protect your eyes, if necessary
If pollen comes in contact with your eyes, it can make them itch and tear
…wear a hat or visor and large glasses, or perhaps even goggles
…periodically wiping eye and nose area with a damp cloth can help remove pollen anytime you’re away from the house
…using a saline eyewash can help rinse pollen out of eyes too
