Cheap printing for children's book & ideas for submitting?
My daughter has written 2 kids' books & I just finished buying supplies to self publish 30 copies of it. This includes cardstock, copies of the pages, fasteners, etc. It's cute, but 30 copies costs me $50 and I have a feeling we're going to need more! This is a short book, only 2 sides or 8.5x11 paper, front & back, but it also has cover art, & dedication & author pages. I'd like to check out using a printer service, but so far, I've gotten no where with Staples. I can live with $1 per copy, in "floppy book" style, & if need be, we could stretch the text to make it longer; there are illustrations too. Also, where is a legitimate place I can I help her submit it for mass production? A kid's publishing house? An agent? Do they have agents for kid authors?

The best way to go is to get a copy of Writer's Market and look for a literary agent who represents children's books. I have to tell you though, it's not easy to get that genre published in today's market anymore unless you're a celebrity. Sad but true.
I self-published my first novel and it cost me plenty. I used the publisher as a printer and binder only. I ended up doing all the leg work to get it in bookstores. The publisher got it on Amazon and Borders, but that was it. It was also very overpriced as far as I was concerned.
