sizzix machine feedback?
Trying to decide between the sidekick and regular machine.
This question depends on a few things you must ask yourself:
1) Do I like enough of the shape dies for the Sizzix original? (note: there are RED, YELLOW, GREEN and BLUE alpha dies)
2) Do I like enough of the dies (aka sizzlits) for the Sidekick?
(note: these are MUCH smaller in size compared to original dies)
3) Do I plan to be mobile with this tool?
Consider these questions BEFORE you buy. Visit www.sizzix.com for research on dies available for each. There are advantages to having both even if you are unsure. Speaking from personal experience, if you like BOTH die types, buy BOTH machines. Before the Sidekick, there was an adapter for the Original Sizzix - DO NOT BUY THAT!!! I used that a FEW times on mine (before Sidekick was born) and it began to wear out the machine. I called Ellison and they confirmed that the "prolonged use of the adapter WOULD INDEED wear out the machine"; thus they had invented the Sidekick - I got one very shortly after that.
Consider the fact that the sizes of the cuts are also drastically different. The alpabets for the Sizzix are VERY nice for kids posters, large titles on pages, monograms on pages. The alphabets for the Sidekick are VERY nice for adding subtitles, lead off journaling, and yes, they even look good on kids' projects.
If you are planning on being a mobile scrapper; consider that only BRIEFLY in your buying decision. Mark my word, 9 times out of 10, you will find that croppers usually have a station setup for die cutting as part of the organizing. I've rented my collection out for people who have organized crops.
WARNING: No matter which machine you decide on; you WILL find it addictive and you WILL invest a LOT in dies. Dies are EVERYWHERE and on sale/clearance at most stores. You can also get great deals on eBay! Ellison is currently undergoing a lot of changes and phasing out dies; so you can get some at REALLY great deals.
