How big can you stretch your ears?

I was wondering how big you can stretch your ears before the won't completely close up without surgery. My ears are currently at 00 gauge. I want to go to 1/2 inch and I've heard of people going to 1/2 inch and being able to completely close their ears up. My ears are still really elastic, I haven't had any blowouts or infections. I went about 2 or 3 days between stretches on the small sizes.

If you are concerned about them closing up, do not stretch them further. 00g is about the upper limit of them closing to a hole which light won't show through. From 1/2 inch, it's likely that an obvious hole will remain.
I can tell you that they certainly don't make one unemployable; I've stretched my ears to 1 5/8 inches (41mm), which is quite huge, and I still have a great career as an engineer, and they haven't affected my success at all. And I've gone to job interviews with them. And mine won't close smaller than 1 1/4 inches.
